The purpose of this site is to preserve the history of the sheriff in British Columbia.
I am a former sheriff's officer with the County of Vancouver and a
collector of sheriff's badges and insignia issued in the Province of
British Columbia. As my collecting interest grew, I developed an
interest in the history behind the badge. Twenty years later, I have
compiled my research into a book outlining the 150-year history
surrounding the Office of the Sheriff in British Columbia. The contents
of the book include the origins of the Office in England, the history
of the position since the establishment of a judicial system in 1856,
the function and duties of a sheriff, the badges and uniforms,
biographies of each county sheriff in the province during the
fee-for-service era (1856-1974), and the British Columbia Sheriff
